Writing

Marie is a favorite contributor to Dalhousie magazine. Notably, I save the more complicated features for her sensitive and thoughtful approach. She researches her topic carefully before arranging interviews. Many of those interviews are done personally, to develop a rapport with the subject. All along, she’s highly collaborative, keeping in touch with the editor as the story’s concept begins to take shape. Her writing has become even more creative over time, as she embraces the magazine genre. And as an editor, I’ve got to love that she never misses a deadline.

Teaching

Marie Weeren is a highly competent educator—a model teacher in the truest sense. Her teaching makes a lasting, transformational, impression on her students. Their learning experience goes beyond the classroom, the assignment or the project. She teaches by her example. Marie brings impressive intellectual energy to her teaching. She also layers her personal integrity about the true worth of teaching (and learning). And Marie is willing to try little things that are fun and creative, transforming them into “learning moments.” I have known Marie to script and structure her lectures and other activities down to noteworthy detail.
